Aging Parents

When you are a business owner, you time is limited, and when you are faced with the situation of caring for you aging parents, your entrepreneur skills may not be enough to solve the challenges ahead. Here are a couple of tips to manage your business while having to take care of your loved ones.

Establish a support system - Whether you need to hire support staff or look for creative ways with your siblings to manage your parents care, you will need to find a way to maximize your time.

Develop a work style that maximizes productivity - Your time is limited, so you will need to make the most of every working hour. Emergencies will arise, appointments will need to be met, and disruptions will likely occur, so be prepared to have to stop and start again, but make sure distractions are at a minimum, and that you can focus on the tasks at hand.

Embrace technology - From zoom meetings to calendar automation, technology should be embraced for all aspects of your business and your new role as caregiver.  Micromanaging is out of the question, so delegate and manage your team members in the best way you can. Schedule meetings when your staff is available and make sure meetings are only scheduled when needed. The goal again is to be productive and not waste time.

Your business and your caregiving responsibilities can co-exist, you just have to make a solid plan, be flexible and maintain your stress level on check.
