Fraudsters

In the age of hackers, cybercrime, and vulnerable network systems, your identity is at a higher risk of being stolen than ever. From hospitals to banks and beyond, hackers are taking the opportunity to invade systems that are flawed and stealing consumers information at an alarming rate. There are some things you can do to protect yourself, like signing up to credit monitoring services and identity protection, but once your data has been compromised what should you do?

If you suspect your identity or your social security has been compromised here are a couple of steps you can take to minimize the effects:

• Report your SS# stolen or compromised at identitytheft.gov

• File a police report.

• Request a credit freeze or fraud alert with the major credit reporting companies.

Staying on top of your identity and doing what you can to stay protected may not keep you from having your identity stolen, but it is a start.
